This will also be the "back to the future" situation in the back row. If he jumps off the couch, Sean McMahon will do his first test in four years.
In the game that started
with a disastrous defeat to the All Blacks, Australia has been transformed by
the return of veteran contenders, giving fans hope two years after the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.
Rennie said: "We have
real competition in terms of places, but every day to gain respect. We have to
be a very healthy team now, we have to get up again."
Regarding the call from Holmes,
Rennie added: "The boys were roaring loudly because he was such a popular
character, we think he can do a job for us. This is not a sentimental
choice."
Previously, Holmes met with
coach Rennie in Perth and asked if he could come to the Kangaroo camp to take
notes so he could switch to coach.
Rennie later called him to
come to Queensland as a player.
"This is great. It
feels like my first hat," Holmes told media. “I hope Taniela [Tupou] can't
spend 80 minutes, quickly they need someone to fill it.
Holmes said. "My body
is really good, I'm quite strong and I feel like my scramble is going very
smoothly."

| McMahon was part of the Wallabies that competed in the 2015 World Cup final |
27-year-old McMahon played in Japan after leaving the Melbourne Rebels in Super Rugby in late 2017. His last test was against Scotland at the end of November of that year.
McMahon was part of the
Kangaroos that competed in the 2015 World Cup final, but his transfer to Japan
initially made him ineligible for the Australian competition.
McMahon, who was brought
back to the Wallabies by Rennie, will be allowed to compete in Australia's Test
against Scotland, England, and Wales over the consecutive weekends of November
and the Japan Tour on October 23.
Although his contract in
Japan doesn't expire until early 2023, he may also qualify for the next France Rugby World Cup.
