Hulton Park Ryder Cup golf course expansion planning

The public consultation on the contentious plan to shape the Ryder Cup golf course on Hulton Park Estate has been protracted. Developer Peel L&P has submitted a reviewed planning application that includes 1,036 homes in the estate, which borders Over Hulton, Westhoughton, and Atherton, repeating the plan approved by the Bolton Commission and the Secretary of State in 2020. Other recent additions include improved pedestrian and bicycle access, as well as the Over Hulton allotment and a new village hall. In addition, a health and wellness center has been added to support amenities such as the Lido, gym, and exercise room.

The resort is designed to host the world's largest golf tournaments, such as the Ryder Cup and other major tournaments. Cllr Toby Hewitt, a Bolton Council cabinet member responsible for strategic housing and planning, said: "We know that this proposal has significant public interest. Given the size and nature of the proposed development, we have expanded the scope of the extensive consultation on this planning request.

“Public consultation is an important part of the planning process and the feedback we receive helps us make decisions.

"I urge anyone who has not yet responded to the plan to take benefit of the postponement and have your say."
