RWC 2023: World Rugby aims to recuperate the concept of the Nations Championship
According to reports, the World Rugby Federation has formulated four separate plans to resume the proposed Nations Championship after the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Rugby Fans can buy Rugby World Cup Tickets from our website.
The Nations Championship is a multi-level international
competition designed to provide more and more meaningful matches between the
two World Cups. It was first proposed by the sport's global governing body in
2019.

It is also hoped that this concept can provide a way for the development of rugby countries, enabling them to compete more often with the world's top teams.
Other advantages outlined by World Rugby included union
financial security and coordination with club rugby, but the proposal was
ultimately rejected as a common agreement on the format could not be reached.
Opponents also believe that holding such a competition every
year - each year to crown a hemisphere championship - will devalue the World
Cup, but the World Rugby League has not given up on the game.
In an interview with Stuff, Hale T-Pole, president of Pacific
Rugby Players, revealed that four different ways to host the game are being
discussed.
The original concept of World Rugby was to divide the major
rugby countries into two conferences, namely the European conference and the
rest of the world conference. Each conference is composed of three divisions.
The top division of each conference will consist of Six
Nations teams and rugby championship teams, and the two highest-ranked
non-European teams (then Japan and Fiji) will join the rugby championship
teams.
The second division of each conference is also planned to
have six teams made up of sub-optimal countries in their respective areas, and
the third division of each conference is planned to be divided into four pools
of four third-tier countries.
Each division has promotion and relegation playoffs, which
give low-level teams the opportunity to regularly interact with high-level
teams. Rugby Fans can buy

However, the threat of relegation from the six countries
turned out to be at the heart of some major European unions, leading to the
cancellation of the concept of national championships.
So far, as T-Pole told Stuff, rugby stakeholders have
proposed an improved national championship format for the key meeting next
month.
The former Tongan international said: "We are currently
discussing the reorganization of the championship, global competition, and
options 1A, 1B, 2A, and 2B."

"I think November will be an exciting time for these discussions, a second-tier game of eight teams. Then you have a top four of the top four or whatever they would call it.
T-Pole's disappointment at the lack of competition in the
Pacific islands, even if the national championship doesn't kick-off for a
second time, maybe mitigated as he said the "Pacific Rim" competition
is also being considered.
The Pacific Nations Cup, which ultimately consisted of Fiji,
Samoa, Tonga, Japan, the United States, and Canada, has not been held since
2019, leaving rugby leaders in some of these countries disaffected.
In August, two months before the United States will bid to
host the 2027 and 2031 World Cups, NFL CEO Ross Young expressed concern about
the Eagles' lack of meaningful competition.
The Eagles have paid the price for their recent lack of
competitiveness, as they were beaten 104-14 by the All Blacks this weekend in
Washington DC. This match is no different from New Zealand's 102-0 defeat to
Tonga in July.
However, such outbursts are a thing of the past and if the
Pacific Nations Cup returns, T-Pole hopes to be able to do just that.
“It was mentioned in the conversation. As you know, the more
games the better for the islands. Clearly, Covid-19 will not help them, but there
have been discussions about competing with the United States in the Pan-
Pacific League."
