British Open 2022: Collin Morikawa, Phil Mickelson deliver relevant moments this weekend
Collin Morikawa didn't perform well at the Zozo Championship last week, but his tie for 7th place is enough to lift his position in the official world golf rankings to 2nd best of his career, surpassing Dustin Johnson, and now with Jon Rahm. Collin Morikawa didn’t perform well at the Zozo Championship last week |
The two-time Grand Slam champion and British Open champion defending the "Golf Player of the Year" looks destined to reach the top of the mountain in the near future. But the main champion is not resistant to rare bad goals. They sometimes look like you and me - they even laugh about it. On Saturday, Morikawa had a touching moment in Japan.
"I don't think many people know this that I haven't done
yet, I've done something in my career," he said after the third round. I
was in the middle of the fairway on the 6th Hole, par 5, and hit a wedge in the
bushes."
Oh no, he didn't! The sweetest swing in the game hit the
hosel rocket? We need video evidence.
"I just want to try to get in touch, I really don't know
where the ball will go, it’s a good way to start a new day after the age of one
to five," he said jokingly.
Not sure where the ball is going? Do you just want to get in
touch? So nice, Collin, I can feel you. Here's the difference between
Morikawa's low shot and local town hall shot, Joe Hacker: Morikawa can still
shoot 67 points.
Mickelson caught a birdie in the first round on Friday |
Morikawa isn't the only big winner this year to experience brain farts this past weekend. In the PGA Tour champion Dominion Energy Charity Classic, British Open Championship, PGA Championship defending champion Phil Mickelson has a quadriceps case. His quadriceps are activated, of course, he didn't miss the "leg training day" but the 547-yard par 5 ninth hole has kicked him in the butt. Mickelson caught a birdie in the first round on Friday, but instead of a birdie on Saturday, he went out of bounds twice and swallowed four bogeys9.
As Yogi Berra said, everything seemed familiar on Sunday at nine
o'clock already. Mickelson cleared the senior circuit with three wins in the
first four games and was flogged by the eternal wonder Bernhard Langer to
finish 47th.
