Johnny Sexton says his response to his replacement taught him many lessons 

During a 35-27 loss in 2020, he responded by trembling his head and looking at the coach's box.

"That is a big responsibility of the captain, we did not organize well, we did not perform well that day and that was probably due to some preparation. I knowledge a lot of instructions that week and then of course what was written and the reaction, I think that person directly stood out in terms of learning," Sexton said.

Aside from the week in Paris, Sexton said his experience as a team captain was "overall a very positive one".

"I loved every second of it. It's a massive morality to be asked to do that, and every time you call for a campaign, you pick up the phone, 'Is this good news or bad news?'" he said.

"Such as the management, the leadership team and the players, I'm sure there will be the same challenges as before I hope it will never happen, but when you have good people around you, you stand out. As long as I'm fit, I intend to continue".

Sexton said his experience as a team captain was overall a very positive one

The Leinster striker has said in the past that he wants to continue playing for Ireland until the 2023 World Cup but has yet to discuss his future with the Irish Rugby Union.

"I think we can sit at the end of the Six Nations. That's always been the plan I expected.

"You have to wait as long as possible, I feel good but you know that can change, I keep it up that's the most important thing for me. The last weeks of training and the beginning of the season, as long as the people in charge want me, my purpose is that as long as I'm healthy, as long as I like it."
