Six Nations 2022: Joe Launchbury joins to England squad with Manu Tuilagi's improvement being monitored

Joe Launchbury joined the England team for Sunday's Six Nations game against Italy, with Manu Tuilagi's growth checked by head coach Eddie Jones. Launchbury's last England Six Nations match was against Wales two years ago, replacing the injured Lewis Ludlam. Six Nations Rugby Fans can buy England Six Nations Tickets from our website.

Wasps captain Launchbury takes 69 appearances to the team, and Jones has been awestruck with the tenacity he showed after a nine-month hiatus following a torn ACL.

Jones said Sky Sports News: "He's had a hard period and his return is a real sign of his flexibility."

Courtney Lawes is continuing his return to the game after suffering a concussion against Ulster on January 16, but Jones says he only has a "golden chance" playing Rome.

"He gets along really well, he's not far from us, if you're a gambler you're not going to support it and we hope he's ready for Wales," Jones said.

Jones was not quite committed when asked if Wales would be a target for the rejuvenated Manu Tuilagi, who put on an extraordinary performance for Sale against the Harlequins on Sunday.

"It's more of a question mark," he said of Tuilagi third weekend of the tournament against Wales.

"Of course the physical occurrence, I like his big smile on the pitch, the energy he brings. We would love to have him on the team, but we have to recognize that he needs the right training load.

"We communicate with Sale to let him, we're going to make sure in when the time is right, we'll bring him in and he's fit."

The RFU also confirmed late on Tuesday that London Irish backline Tom Pearson, who has been linked with the squad, will make his first call-up.

A great chance against Italy

After a 20-17 loss to Scotland in the Calcutta Cup, Jones believes his side have a good chance against Italy and say they will focus on more scientific in Rome.

"Of course, we were disappointed with the result against Scotland, our purpose is to ensure that dynamic and focused performance to build on what we did against Scotland. Especially given our performance in the first 60 minutes, we brighten up Rome this weekend with a very good," he said.
