Kenya Simbas launch over 80 summoned as he prepares for Rugby World Cup 2023

Paul Odera and his technical replacement at Kenya's Simbas (national 15-a-side rugby union team) have called up a preliminary roster of 81 players for the Rugby World Cup 2023. Training will take place Thursday morning at the RFUEA site in Nairobi, Kenya, and will focus primarily on strength and conditioning. Kenya's Simbas have called up a preliminary roster of 81 players for the RWC 2023

"Some players who have performed well in the Kenya Cup and have been accepted from this year's roster. Some players in the 2021 team are not in good shape and were selected with their name, and then we have foreign players," said head coach Paul Odera.

Of these, 66 played locally in the Kenya Cup (equivalent to the highest Premier League) and 15 in overseas countries in Europe, the Middle East and the United States.

Sixty-six are divided into three groups based on their position in the country to minimize the impact on their performance in the ongoing Kenya Cup.

“Then place a 35-man squad for the RWC qualifiers, once the Kenya Cup League is over we will analyse the players and then reduce them to 40 players. This year is very important for Simbas and the Kenya Rugby Union. Because we want to play at the World Cup for the first time in July."

Rugby director Thomas Odundo said the Kenya Rugby Union will flank a friendly in May-June but nothing other than qualifications has been confirmed.

Kenya will take on Elgon Cup competitors Uganda in July in qualifiers in Marseille, France and Aix-en-Provence.

Uganda has yet officially launched its campaign for the tournament, which will be the 2022 African Cup of Rugby, but the manager's technical replacement Brian Makalama’s has named the players they want to call up. Rugby Fans can buy Rugby World Cup 2023 Tickets from our website.
