Beirne has become a key part of Andy Farrell's Ireland squad, making his entrance against Australia on the 2018 summer tour and appearing in every match of the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

He has also been named to the 2021 British and Irish Lions squad for the first two Tests against the Springboks in the series.

Lock and back came out of Leinster's system but joined the Welsh team Scarlets in 2016 and won the PRO12 title in 2017. He combined Munster in 2018 and made his debut against the Glasgow Warriors in September of that year in the southern provinces. To date, Beirne has played 45 games for Munster.

“Tadhg's journey to the green jersey has not been smooth sailing, but he has supported himself and proved himself,” said IRFU Performance Director David Nucifora.

"Since returning to Ireland in 2018, he has continued to increase his game and has proven his worth to Munster and the Irish rugby union team with the reliability and quality of his performances."

Tadhg Beirne observed: "I've made some threatening conclusions in my career, but it's been easy. I was thankful to everyone who has maintained me on this journey - my family, my partner and for helping me along the way. Different coach to become a better player.

"I look forward to causal to Red and Green in the coming years, the past few seasons have been bizarre for Munster, Ireland and the Lions".
