Huge changes upcoming to Rugby World Cup 2023

As a result, some of the sparkles of the World Cup is taken away early in the game, with many fans preferring to see a new match than a replay. However, the competition will be very different compared to emerging test countries.

Canada has already missed qualifying for the 2023 tournament after losing to the United States and Chile last year. Until now, Canada has played in the flagship game of rugby, which has featured in every game since its opening edition held in 1987.

Having lost to Uruguay in last year's qualifiers, the United States must now beat Chile in July or miss out on France's 2023 match. The United States only missed one game in its history, and 16 teams travelled to South Africa for the 1995 event.

Temporarily, the odds of another recent tournament entrant opportunities took a big setback over the weekend, with Russia losing the European Rugby Championship for the third time in a row.

Russia was a bit of a surprise at the 2019 World Cup after Romania and Spain were deducted points for sending ineligible players during the qualifying process. While Russia was only the third best-performing country in the qualifiers for Euro 2019, they were ahead of Romania and Spain in the qualifier.

If such controversy had not occurred in the current qualifiers, Russia would almost certainly miss qualifying for the Rugby World Cup 2023. To at least make it to the final qualifying round, Russia must finish third on the entire European qualifying ladder, but they are currently fifth by 10 points behind Romania (22), Spain (21), Georgia (31), and Portugal (16).

With three games to go, Russia will have to do the unthinkable, beating Georgia and Portugal (plus a big win over the Netherlands) to really give themselves an opportunity to stay in the hunt.

While it's not much of a challenge large for Portugal, which played their first and last Rugby World Cup in 2007 when they were drawn in a pool with the All Blacks and France, it seems progressive that Georgia and one of the countries of the national team grows. Romania or Spain will be given an automatic qualifying place, with the third-placed team taking part in the final qualifying.

Romania had never lost a World Cup qualifier before their humiliating defeat in 2019, while Georgia had been a fixture at the World Cup since 2003. Romania played only one match in 1999.

The final 3 rounds of this year's Rugby European Championship (and the final three rounds of European qualifying) will align with the Six Nations over the weekends of February 26, March 12 and March 19.
