Six Nations 2022: Tom Curry against Scotland supports to be England Six Nations captain

Tom Curry, who has appeared as one of the top candidates to become England captain on Thursday, has the strong support of rugby sales director Alex Sanderson to tackle Eddie Jones' leadership crisis for Scotland. Six Nations Rugby Fans can buy England Six Nations Tickets from our website.

Curry, 23, will become the youngest England captain since Will Carling, but he has long been selected for the role, and with both Owen Farrell and Courtney Lawes out injured, it is widely believed he will lead the team.

Curry took the blame in the most recent match, when neither Farrell nor Rolls played, although Jones delayed appointing a replacement two days before England's Six Nations opener against Scotland at Murrayfield, Sanderson said.

Curry joined a group of English players in Twickenham on Wednesday to test the Duchess of Cambridge after announcing she would be taking over from the Rugby Union. Rouse greeted her - a strong sign that he will be captain when fit - and other options for Saturday include Ellis Genge, Maro Itoje and Luke Cowan Dickey.

Jones, who has also named co-captains in the past, and his coach have both worried that players must share responsibility in the absence of Farrell and Lawes.

"It means a lot to Tom," Sanderson said. "When he's actually captain, he's grown into that role, he seems to enjoy that role. When he came back from the Lions [tour], people were talking about his leadership, and then it was in the air.

It's an area where he can improve with experience in leadership, and it's going to be great for him. It's a natural progression."

Jones waited for Joe Marchant's availability on Wednesday night before rounding out his rookie roster as England are chasing just a second win in five games against Scotland. Marchant, who tested positive for Covid-19 last week, is under quarantine protocol and his Thursday morning test results will be key in determining availability.

Without Marchant, England would have lost six of the teams to beat South Africa in their last game, when the 25-year-old played in midfield alongside Henry Slade. He is destined to recreate that partnership, but Elliott Daly is said to have been captivated with his recall to the team and could be in either centre - Mark Atkinson is also an option - or In Jack Norwell, Max Malins and Ollie Hassell - or wing - Collins are also contenders for wing position. In this group, Alex Dombrandt hopes for the start of the Six Nations, Charlie Ewels, Nick Isiekwe and Ollie Chessum compete for the second row of the grid.

Perhaps Jones' most critical decision, however, is whether to stay with Marcus Smith - the spearhead of his 'New England' project - or turn to George Ford, who is a better fit for Jones' team that cannot afford to lose and is much more experienced.

Nearly half of Jones' preparation squad have never played in the Six Nations, including Freddie Steward, who emerged as a fullback after a brief international career but has yet to leave England at Twickenham Appearance. "It's something that's hard to replicate — the animosity of the crowd," Steward said. “We make sure it doesn't affect our performance, we’ve worked really hard this week to prepare for this animosity."

Jones got a boost after Sanderson confirmed that Manu Tuilagi has an option to sell against the Harlequins this weekend. England's game against Italy next week may come too early, but Jones welcomes the 30-year-old for the remainder of the game.
