Six Nations 2022: Scotland summons five unsealed players, Redpath returns
Head coach Gregor Townsend said players in form and improved depth offered Scotland a "great opportunity" to challenge for the Six Nations title. Adam Hastings, George Horn, Huw Jones and Sean Maitland are famous blunders in the tournament lineup. Cameron Redpath has returned from a long-term injury with five unsealed players on the 39-man roster. Six Nations Rugby Fans can buy Six Nations Tickets from our website.
Gregor Townsend said players in form and improved depth offered Scotland |
"With the players we have and the experience this team has gone through, we have a lot of healthy players and the competition for places is very good, it's a big opportunity for us."
"Because they have to
have confidence, both individually and as a team, the competition is very
difficult because the players are in very good shape. The bar has to be set
high. We play every game with the aim of winning.”
"Every game fought for
the games we played and the last year we won three games, so we knew what a
challenge it was but we weren't even in the top two. It's good to know we can
make it difficult for everyone today, but we need to translate that performance
into more wins and play to our potential throughout the game."
Saracens backline Andy
Christie, as well as London Irish winger Kyle Rowe and Glasgow flanker Rory
Darge, are called up for the first time, while Ben Vellacott and Ben White, the
Edinburgh and London Irish uncapped scrum-half, are given a chance.
The return of Northampton
centre Rory Hutchinson and Edinburgh backline Magnus Bradbury, who did not play
for Scotland in 2021, is back in action.
Redpath, 22, made a
brilliant debut in the opening game of the Six Nations against England last
year, but an injury kept him out of the remaining games. In May, he underwent
surgery to repair the ACL in his right knee.
Townsend of Redpath said:
"He managed to win a game before he was in the squad, so we'll see how he
does in Bath and in our training in the coming weeks."

Captain Stuart Hogg with British and Irish lions Finn Russell, Ali Price, Zander Fagerson, Chris Harris, Rory Sutherland, and Duhan Van Der Merwe joins Hamish Watson.
On the unexpected omission
of Gloucester flying half-length Hastings, Townsend explained: "Adam was
unlucky. He just missed. At the moment we feel like Blair (King horn) and Finn
are playing better.
"Those who missed it
were rightly dissatisfied. We gave them all feedback. It was a challenge for
them and we wanted to see them respond."
Scotland starts their game
against England on February 5 in Murrayfield.
A trip to Cardiff is
followed by a home game with France before Townsend's side travels to Rome and
Dublin.
