Rugby World Cup 2023 Tickets: England preserve Owen Farrell as captain with Dan Biggar to lead Wales

England and Wales both lead at halftime in the Six Nations. The team announced a comprehensive roster for the upcoming match on Tuesday, with Owen Farrell retaining the England captaincy despite not having played any rugby matches since he suffered an ankle injury in a win over Australia in November. Another No. 10, Dan Biggar, will be Wales captain, while Alun Wyn Jones is recovering from shoulder surgery he required following an injury during the autumn test. This will be Biggar's first captaincy.

The return of Farrell - looking to prove his fitness, with his return for the Saracens against the London Irish in the European Challenge Cup on Sunday - means there will be no recall for George Ford, despite his stint with Leigh. The Stuttgart Tigers had an excellent domestic performance.

Marcus Smith and uncapped Bath player Orlando Bailey were included, with Farrell moving to centre as coach Eddie Jones decides to start Smith.

Ford is one of the many big names still overlooked, along with Mako and Billy Vunipola and the versatile security guard Elliot Daly.

Sam Underhill, a fixture in the 2019 Rugby World Cup squad and still a key member of Jones' back row, has also been overlooked.

Uncapped players Alfie Barbeary, Tommy Freeman, Ollie Hassell-Collins, Ollie Chessum and Luke Northmore join Bailey's squad in Jones' overhaul ahead of the Rugby World Cup 2023 in France.

Winger Jack Norwell, who has made his first appearance in England since the World Cup, has returned from a string of injuries.

Wales coach Wayne Pivac says Bigger's experience means he is well placed to replace Jones, who has had two shoulder surgeries following his injury against New Zealand in October.

"He gave us that. He has capped 95 for Wales and toured with the English and Irish Lions. Dan is respected by other players and management, so we think he will do well."

Ken Owens, Josh Navidi, George North, Leigh Halfpenny, Justin Tipuric and Taulupe Faletau were sidelined along with Jones through injury, but winger Ross Moriarty, who has not played since the fall due to a shoulder problem, joined the 36- stubborn group.

The team consists of three uncapped players in hooker Dewi Lake, cornerback Jac Morgan and No. 8 James Ratti.

World Player of the Year Antoine Dupont looks set to continue as France captain as Charles Ollivon, captain of the past two Six Nations teams, will not be pushed back with a serious knee injury. DuPont himself has not played for a month due to a knee problem but is expected to return to Toulouse this weekend.

Flyhalf Matthieu Jalibert was updraft last weekend after a thigh injury but should be fit for the start of the tournament.

Defenders Virimi Vakatawa and Teddy Thomas and lock Bernard le Roux return after missing the autumn test, while there are seven unrestricted players in the 42-man squad: Clermont prop Daniel Bibi Biziwu, Montpellier's lock Florian Verhaeghe and Castres' Florent Vanverberghe, race flanker player Yoan Tanga, Lyon flyhalf Leo Berdeu and Jules Favre of Stade Rochelais and Tani Vili of Clermont.

The Six Nations starts on February 5, Wales start in Ireland and England in Scotland. The next day, France welcomed Italy.
