Owen Farrell reigned out over Six Nations 2022 with 'curiosity' injury
Eddie Jones has advised Owen Farrell to "take his medicine" after being banned from the entire Six Nations before backing his absent captain to return a better player and extend his career in England. Six Nations Rugby Fans can buy Six Nations Tickets from our website.

Jones also believes Farrell's absence will enable him to tackle England's long-standing leadership issues, and he continued to insist that he was the right person to be captain until last week, despite his lack of playing time.
Farrell underwent surgery on
his right ankle on Wednesday - just 10 weeks after a similar operation on his
left ankle - and will continue through mid-March. It's a terrible blow to the
30-year-old, who suffered a "curiosity" injury while training with
the Saracens last week as he prepares to return to action. But now Jones has to
do without Farrell, who has started the entire tournament with all the English
Six Nations games since he took over as manager.
Jones has some other
troubling questions about Courtney Lawes, the favourite to be captain if it's
appropriate, who can't be in Brighton's training camp this week due to a head
injury. In addition, Jonny May is expected to undergo knee surgery and miss the
entire game, Jonny Hill will be out of England's first game against Scotland
next week due to a foot problem, and Joe Mahler is expected to recover after testing
positive for Covid-19. It remains to be seen if -19 will be played again.
Adding to the uncertainty,
Henry Slade won't be able to train until this weekend, with Jones exposed he
still doesn't know how big a team to pick for the start of training camp next
week, clearly pointing to how France choose 42 players.

However, he relishes the opportunity to put his team to the test. After complaining in the past about the lack of a leader in the English game, he challenged his senior players to fill the vacancy and only planned to appoint his new captain two days before the game in Scotland. On the pitch, Marcus Smith is likely to restore a 10-12 partnership with Slade - provided the Exeter centre is fit - which worked well against South Africa.
While former England captain
Dylan Hartley was sidelined in similar circumstances and missed the 2019 Six
Nations due to injury, Jones believes Farrell's best years are still ahead,
citing Dan Carter. He led New Zealand in 2015 at the age of 33. Owen is one of
the most resilient, motivated players I know," Jones said.
