England Vs Ireland: Paul O'Connell thinks Ireland needs to improve everything to beat England
Paul O'Connell considers Ireland must progress in all areas and remain calm if it is to beat England in the 2022 Guinness Six Nations in the fourth round at Twickenham. Ireland, currently runner-up in the Championship, and third place England are just one point behind, with both sides winning two games and losing one. Three-time champion
O'Connell, now Ireland's striker, believes Ireland should play against a
dangerous team from England.
“I think England is bubbling
up and about to put in a great performance, so what we have done, should be
done better," he said.
"We didn't take it
because of some small mistakes but we had the chance at the weekend to try and
score. We did that against France and I think we had a chance, but when we
managed to put pressure on the team we have not provided the kind of details
that we provide.
“It’s a huge effect for the
guys. When these guys play for Ireland they are never short of intention,
desire or feeling, it's just that keep calm on important occasions.
"There's not one
specific area. Everything just has to be more correct."
Ireland was better in the
second half in their only previous away game against France, but a slow start
to the season proved expensive.
He said:
"Inappropriately neither team was able to lead ten points. We did a few
things early in that game to give them access and we were in control of those
things. Within range."
"There's still a long
way to go to get back on the road with a 0-10 score, especially against a team
like France or England at Twickenham. That's a big part of the match. We always
try to get it right to do. If you can get ahead early, you're in a good
position."
