Romania will now compete with three other teams in the final qualifying round for the 20th and final ticket to the Rugby World Cup 2023.

Romanian coach Andy Robinson said after the game: "We went up 26-0 and then got the Netherlands back on track. When we played well we were good but we closed occasionally and it was a few a lesson for us.

"Now we're going to play some games in the summer and then a rematch in November. As a team, we need to get fitter, but from here we can grow and get better."

The Netherlands have yet to win nine games since returning to the second tier of European rugby for the first time in 19 years in 2021.

But head coach Zane Gardiner believes they will continue to grow into a team that consistently hits higher-level teams.

"We just need a period at this level, we can play a few matches now, but it takes 80 minutes at a time," he said.

Georgia picked up the pace to finish the game as convincing winners

Georgia led only 21-15 in the half-hour, but Lelos scored four transition attempts in the last quarter.

Tabutsadze and Giorgadze both scored their second fights shortly afterwards, giving hooker Giorgi Chkoidze a nice win.

"We did well in this game and it means winning the trophy again. Spain is a good team, they played well, but we played better and now we are starting to prepare for next year's World Cup," said head coach Levan Maisashvili of Georgia.

Spain head coach Santiago Santos was lukewarm in the defeat. "They played better and deserved to be champions, we have to congratulate Georgia," he said.

"It is unsatisfactory to lose this game, but the huge image is that we are at the World Cup and can't wait to develop the sport in our country."
