“What he fixes has a lot of merits,” said Flick, told Bundesliga. “He’s having a very decent run now and I think he’s doing really well and may bring a component to our team that we don’t have in our current form. We see a few players in this location in the Bundesliga who could possibly strengthen us in the 26-man squad… He’s a candidate.”

Bayern Munich, as it turns out, isn’t the only side wracked with questions of how to play without a conventional number 9. Unlike Julian Nagelsmann, however, Flick can directly call up anyone he chooses from the pool, should he choose Chelsea FC’s Kai Havertz, RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner, and VfL Wolfsburg’s Lukas Nmecha aren’t excellent or conventional, or in-form enough.

Flick was on hand in Hoffenheim last Friday to watch Füllkrug take home MOTM respects, scoring and assisting for Werder over TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. And last Saturday, Flick was viewing Der Klassiker with keen interest — and not merely for the sizable Bavarian depending in his Germany World Cup squad. And since there aren’t any selections at Bayern (for the moment), Flick is turning his eye elsewhere.

Germany’s Nations League

20-year-old Karim Adeyemi had already wrecked into the senior national team. He earned call-ups but scant playing time in Germany’s Nations League movement this summer, and moved in the transfer window as well from RB Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund — charting a similar path as Erling Haaland (now at Manchester City) before him.

And after Adeyemi was brought on against Bayern in the additional half, he proved way too much for any of Bayern’s left-sided protectors to handle. Kingsley Coman would end up with two yellow cards and a suspension for his troubles.

While Josip Stanišić could only watch as Adeyemi blew by and brought an inch-perfect cross for Manuel Neuer to strangely save. Unsurprisingly, Adeyemi started in the following Champions League midweek competition against Sevilla, a 1-1 draw.

Neuer, of course, didn’t achieve to save everything in that game. And the first BVB goal that got through came courtesy of an additional Dortmund prodigy — Youssoufa Moukoko, a home-grown Dortmund talent who is potentially Haaland’s heir seeming and still just 17 years of age. Unsurprisingly, Adeyemi started in the next Champions League midweek match against Sevilla, a 1-1 draw.

Moukoko didn’t back depressed from the occasion, either, barreling into Neuer after scoring and knocking his potential national side squad-mate over. Unlike Adeyemi, who is perhaps a winger-forward hybrid, Moukoko fits more in the midpoint and has extended been identified as a potential salve for Germany’s striker drought.

“It’s a team game,” he said simply “A lot of belongings are working are working out for me right now, and I’m happy about that since I’ve been working hard for it.”

Hansi Flick

There isn’t much more time before the pedal hits the metallic in Qatar. For Hansi Flick, decisions loom — both in squad selection and tactics — as he anticipates the timeless and familiar No. 9 question currently plaguing both his republic and its top club.

Yet perhaps it’s not in the next generation, but in the uncovered gems of the current, where the response really lies. Füllkrug, for his share, is brushing off the hype.

Germany vs Hungary: Lineups, squad news, damages, and more!

It’s the global break, and that means the Bayern Munich men’s team isn’t in action this week. Hansi Flick’s Germany World Cup squad nationwide team is. They finish off the Nations League group stage with their two final matches. Starting Friday against group bests Hungary, in what will also serve as a tune-up for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Germany is currently additional in the group, having run a string of 1-1 draws in June (sound familiar?) before smashing Italy 5-2 in their final match of the straw hat. Hungary, meanwhile, tired mighty England twice — 1-0 on June 4th and 4-0 on June 14th. The Germans will face England happening Monday. The Nations Association is back! Hansi Flick is now fine-tuning his style for the upcoming World Cup.

Team news

Flick’s side was hit with a cruel cue that the COVID-19 pandemic is very much still around, as Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzka have had to remove from the squad following positive tests. Along with Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt — who is also ill but has not verified positive. So it might be something else.

Hoffenheim keeper Oliver Baumann and VfL Wolfsburg midfielder Maximilian Arnold have remained called up in place of the late removals, though with a view to World Cup preparations. It’s unlikely players more firmly outside of the first excellent will see significant action.

Lukas Klostermann of RB Leipzig, who made his case as starting right-back in the national team squad in June, is separately out hurt.

Hopefully, that’s the last of the COVID bags for now, but it’s another shot across the bow from the rapidly-evolving virus. And the DFB should step up its extenuation plans to prevent chaos from trendy at the tournament. Klara Bühl and Lea Schüller. Key players on the women’s team, both tested positive and missed key sports in the course of EURO 2022.

So, how will the team selection look? Flick’s tactics came into emphasis in the four Nations League games this June. And he’ll likely stick near Plan A for these two.

However, he’ll also need to keep in mind the demands of the period in order to avoid wearing out his top players (cough, Thomas Müller) too much before the contest even begins. There’s not a lot of rest between Friday and Monday. So Flick will have to choose prudently who features more in which game.

Here’s what his XI besides Hungary could look like:

Alternatives: Schlotterbeck (who hasn’t had the best of movements so far) at CB, Hofmann at RW, and Havertz for Werner. I figure Müller gets the rest and revenues alongside the more convincing Sané and Musiala for England, along with Hofmann and Havertz.

The actor probably most in need of rest — Joshua Kimmich — is someone likely. Not smooth Flick dares ever bench, and the sudden lightness in midfield makes that even firmer to do.

Personally, I view a Raum-Hofmann fullback combination as fantastically unlikely. They’re both highly attacking players and Flick showed a favorite for one defensive fullback in June. Though maybe Flick will decide an ultra-attacking lineup is a change-up he wants to solve a compact defense.

Germany is currently second in the group, consuming run a string of 1-1 draws in June (sound familiar?) before smashing Italy 5-2 in their final competition of the summer. Hungary, meanwhile, beat huge England twice — 1-0 on June 4th and 4-0 on June 14th. The Germans will express England on Monday.
