The head of the football association secured satellite TV in 2022 at the Souq Al Wakra hotel near the team’s headquarters in Doha. A 95-strong delegation of players, coaches and support staff will witness all the action at the World Cup.

At St George’s Park last summer, the team found many surprises upon arrival. Gareth Southgate’s side reached the final but was defeated by Italy on penalties. There are family photos and souvenirs, outdoor barbecues, quiz nights and regular phone calls to loved ones.

They will follow this model in Qatar, where the Three Lions brand is present throughout the hotel. England FIFA World Cup hotel Al Wakra management has installed a brand new outdoor pool, 60 new employees and security at the main entrance.

Aiman Merenciano

Senior sales manager Aiman Merenciano told the Mirror: “The new pool is ready. We have now expanded our workforce from 70 to 100 and the World Cup will be 130. This is to ensure the team has everything they need All staff will support England. We really hope they do well.”

For safety, a new entrance was needed and changing rooms and a toilet was built next to the new swimming pool.

“Outside the hotel, the branding is FIFA,” Aiman added. “Everything in the hotel is done by England.

“Their new TV system has been installed in all rooms so all matches will be broadcast live. The FA spoke to our chefs. Most of the food will be sourced locally. We have everything so we will prepare all the menus. Staff have a good command of English which is to be expected.”

The FA owns 95 of the 101 rooms – a handful of which have been booked by FIFA. As team chiefs try to recreate the friendly that did so well at the World Cup in Russia’s relaxed atmosphere. In 2018, Southgate left a handwritten note waiting for players and staff behind the scenes.

Figures obtained by The Mirror show that England and Wales are probably the two most supported teams in Qatar. Group rival the United States will have more fans than any other country than the hosts. Americans retained 11.5% of the rooms, for a total of 130,000. Mexico came in second with 10.9%. Saudi Arabia is in third place so far with 10.8% of the rooms sold.

At least 3,000 fans from Wales will join the 3,000 Three Lions fans, according to the Football Supporters Association.

“The ex-pat community is an unknown when it comes to ticket sales,” said spokeswoman Ashley Brown, part of the “Free Lions” team named after their free fan magazine.
