Resident's response to bid to restore £240m Ryder Cup golf course plan
Residents said they want more calls for a £240m Ryder Cup golf plan to get 1,000 new homes back on track. Developers Peel and L&P announced yesterday they would appeal Bolton Council's decision to reject the controversial Hulton Park plan, which would include a luxury golf course. Residents said they want more answers for a £240m Ryder Cup golf plan |
“Everyone suspects it's coming, and it would be nice to clarify what's being appealed to,” said John Bullen, organizer of the community group About Hulton.
He said, “So being rejected
costs us a lot, they said the mansion would open, a rejected proposal has a lot
to offer the community let's open it now, and some events for people to come
and watch, let's do some tours".
But campaigners such as
Hulton Estate Area Residents Together (Heart) remain opposed to the move,
saying the plan relies too much on Bolton's bid to host the Ryder Cup in 2031
or 2035.
Sandra Hesketh's HEART
Secretary Says: "It's not surprising, it's what Peele always does when he
loses but we know our arguments are correct nothing has changed."
She added: "The Ryder
Cup is not guaranteed but they are arguing about the special circumstances of
the Ryder Cup, HEART has fought long, the residents don't want it, and the
council doesn't want it and hard for this, we don't want it.
"It's a cash cow for
Peel and they'll milk it."
The company said it had
listened to feedback since the proposal was rejected by Bolton City Council in
February and hoped the revised proposal would win the community round.
Peel L&P has acknowledged that the project is contingent on acquiring |
Planning and Strategy Director Richard Knight at Peel L&P said: "We have already received planning permission to redevelop and restore Hulton Park, following the approval of the Secretary of State in 2020, so we are very disappointed that Bolton Council is reviewing our review and has rejected an improvement plan., as it receives more local feedback, it really is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to invest in Bolton and improve the region.
“We remain committed to
supporting development investment of this magnitude will only happen if Hulton
Park is a Ryder Cup winner as we know how much it will bring to Bolton and the
North West.
“These include better
housing choices, more jobs, wellness facilities, a community-wide golf academy,
improved transportation, and new health.
“We want locals to be proud
of what their town has achieved and support these revised plans, It's a
determined plan, but Bolton deserves it and needs it as opportunities like
these don't come around every day and the benefits last a lifetime comes
along."
Peel L&P has
acknowledged that the project is contingent on acquiring the rights to host the
Ryder Cup tournament in 2031 or 2035.
