Reborn Rex Prodrive P25 for Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 entrance

If you are looking for a Hyundai Subaru Impreza 22B STI, this is the closest you can get.

Prodrive, the UK-based motorsports company behind some of Subaru’s biggest rally victories, will unveil its retro-looking P25 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 in June.

The Prodrive P25, previewed in sketches, looks nearly identical to the rally-derived two-door 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B STI. But thanks to “modern technology,” the motorsports company claims it will be stronger, lighter, and have better management.

The P25 name commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Subaru Impreza World Rally Car (WRC)’s first debut in the World Rally Championship.

Under the hood is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder boxer engine with an output of more than 298 kW. It will be mated to a six-speed semi-automatic gearbox with paddle shifters, with power sent to all four wheels.

For situation, the original road Subaru Impreza 22B STI was powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder boxer engine. That produced 206 kW and 363 Nm of torque. It is mated to a close-ratio five-speed manual transmission and the drive is sent to all four wheels.

The Prodrive P25 will also seemingly have a lightweight framework with “heavy use of carbon fibre”. It is unclear whether this will be a modified platform or a redesigned version of the existing Subaru Impreza WRC platform.

The UK-based racing company will build just 25 Subaru Impreza 22B style cars at its headquarters in Banbury, UK.

Who designed the original Subaru Impreza WRC for Prodrive. The Prodrive P25 was designed by Peter Stevens. Who was responsible for the engineering of the original rally car. While engineering was overseen by Prodrive Technical Director David Lapworth.

David Richards

“The original 22B Impreza’s most iconic model was considered Subarus’ and was in high demand,” said Pro Chairman David Richards.

“Our own modern interpretation of a car that has a place in automotive history. We wanted to improve on everything that makes this car so special by applying the latest technology to create.”

Prodrive has already expressed interest in the P25, with the first of 25 cars set to be delivered to customers later in 2022.

Limited-production reinterpretations of classic iconic vehicles are currently on the rise, with recent examples including vehicles such as the Lancia 037-inspired Kimera Evo37. The Jaguar E-Type-inspired Eagle Lightweight GT and Singer’s Porsche 911.

DeLorean EV

DeLorean will also unveil its retro-inspired DeLorean EV on May 31, 2022. Before unveiling it at the 2022 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 18, 2022.

The Prodrive P25 will sit together with the Hunter. The legal version of the brand’s Dakar Rally rival, in the ever-expanding prodrive range.

Early Subaru Impreza WRX STI models are already legendary. But it’s fair to say that Subaru’s recent decision to destroy the STI brand. As we know it has made them even more important.

Subaru says it just can’t make the new STI work in the current context. In other words, it must reduce its total emissions.

“Subaru Corporation will accelerate their investments in future performance technologies and confirm today. That there will be no STI variant of the next-generation Subaru WRX,” said Subaru Australia.
