FIFA World Cup: Gulf of Qatar cruise ships full up as cabins cost $800 per night

Two cruise ships docked in Doha's West Bay offer some pricier options for fans heading to the World Cup later this year. The luxury cruise ships, the five-star MSC World Europa, and the four-star MSC Poesia will offer more than 3,800 cabins and can accommodate nearly 10,000 visitors. While housing for the 2022 Qatar Football World Cup may be more expensive than usual, fans who decide to book a night at MSC Poesia can expect to pay at least $179 per night, including breakfast, for a room without a window, the website says.

Most reservations are for a minimum of two nights, and fans expect to pay a minimum of $358 per stay for a room that can accommodate up to two guests.

The cheapest double/twin room at MSC World Europe costs about $350 including a breakfast buffet. The most expensive room, priced at about $795, sleeps four people and offers a full board.

Dates are filling up and rooms on MSC Poesia from November 23 to December 2 and MSC World Europe from November 26 to December 1 are not available.

Both cruise hotels offer a variety of cabin options, from traditional rooms and rooms with ocean views to interior rooms with no windows.

Guests booking MSC Poesia have access to three swimming pools, a spa and wellness center, a poolside cinema, tennis and basketball courts, as well as a restaurant and bar.

Launched in December, MSC World Europe has the longest dry slide at sea, six swimming pools, 14 Jacuzzis with sea views, a spa and wellness Centre, shops, and a range of restaurants and bars.

Price increased

While the price per room will remain the same throughout the competition, the minimum number of nights per stay may increase as the date approaches the end of the competition, depending on room and boat selection.

For dates around the semi-finals, expect a minimum stay of three nights, and for the finals and play-offs for third place, a minimum of four nights.

For the World Cup final, the cheapest four-night stay at MSC Poesia costs $717, including a buffet breakfast. The most expensive class in the final is MSC World Europe at $3,183 for four nights - in a room for four with a sea view and full board included.

During the race, the boats will be anchored at the Doha Grand Terminal, a 10-minute shuttle ride from Souq Waqif in central Doha. The nearest World Cup venue is the 974 Stadium, which is less than two kilometers away. World Cup organizers have announced several options, including a desert camp that costs $207 per night and offers two single beds or a double bed.

Dorms on site have bathrooms, fridges, Wi-Fi, and housekeeping, and the village has restaurants and takeaways.

Fans struggle to find a place

Qatar FIFA World Cup Tickets are among the most sought-after tickets in World Cup history, with 804,186 tickets allocated in the first round of booking Qatar World Cup Tickets.

In total, just over 3 million tickets were offered, but 1 million tickets were reserved for FIFA and its partners.

Hotels will likely be assigned to qualifying teams before advertising paid supporters as many teams have already booked during the tournament.

Airbnb accommodation is another option for fans, although prices are more than quadruple end-to-end.

The Hayya Card gives fans with match tickets a visa to enter Qatar, access to stadiums, and free public transport. But to register, they have to provide accommodation details.
