As they go through one of the worst seasons in franchise history, head coach Doug Pederson keeps the Jaguars moving in the right direction. NFL London fans to buy NFL London Tickets from our website.
In addition, Jacksonville has a promising young quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, who is expected to improve a lot in his sophomore year. So how will the Jaguars perform next season? Opinions are divided; some analysts expect them to win five games, while others think they can go from bottom to top in the AFC South.
With that in mind, here are B&T’s game-by-game predictions for the Jaguars in 2022.
Jaguars set for a strong start to 2022 season: forecasts for weeks 1-2
Week 1: @Washington Commander, win
Head coach Doug Pederson will take on his ex-student Carson Wentz, whom the Jaguars know so well that they will take him to Indianapolis in the 2021 season finale. The Colts were eliminated from the playoffs. The fact that Chase Young’s defensive end won’t fit after tearing his ACL this offseason should give the Jags a slight edge.
On the other hand, Jacksonville’s offensive line still has to take on Montez Sweat, Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen. Likewise, the Jaguars’ cornerback team will be tasked with taking on Commander wide receiver Terry McLaurin. Still, the Jaguars should close the season opener with their first win of the year.
Week 2: vs. Indianapolis Colts, win
The Jags should go as favourites in their Week 2 games. First, it will be home. And the Indianapolis Colts haven’t won a game at TIAA Bank Field since 2014. Of course, Matt Ryan is an improved version of the quarterback, and Jonathan Taylor remains his ruler. Plus, the Colts’ defence is solid, led by defensive tackle Deforest Buckner.
That said, Shaquille, formerly of Darius, and Leonard are unlikely to be able to play and could miss much of the off-season following a back injury in July. The fact that he doesn’t have to have a game plan for him is one of the reasons the Jags should get two “W’s” in a row.
Week 3: @Los Angeles Chargers, win
Many of the league’s top quarterbacks live in the AFC West, and the Jaguars will face one of them, Justin Herbert, in Week 3. The Los Angeles Chargers came close to the playoffs last year but were eventually knocked out by the Raiders in the season finale through Las Vegas.
Herbert has yet to win one playoff game in his NFL career. On the other hand, Bolt has several players on his roster that could give the Jaguars a headache in week 3. They have one of the best wide receiver duos in the league, Mike Williams and Keenan Allen. Plus, Austin Ekeler is an asset to the passing game, and the trio will be a good test for Jacksonville’s seven guards. Still, the Jaguars deserve their third win of the season.
Week 4: @Philadelphia Eagles: Lost
After three consecutive wins, the Jaguars lost their first game of the year at Lincoln Financial Field. The Philadelphia Eagles have assembled a playoff-caliber team this off-season. They acquired Brown from the Tennessee Titans before the AJ draw and recently traded cornerback Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, showing how serious they are about the 2022 game.
Jalen Hurts should also make the leap in Year 3 so that Doug Pederson can’t take revenge on his former team after his first return to Linc.
Week 5: vs. Houston Texans, win
The Jaguars are back on the winning list in Week 5 when they face the Houston Texans, a team that was strong in the draft but not as aggressive in free agency.
Davis Mills should also make the jump in Year 2, but not quite as big as Trevor Lawrence.
Although Houston beat the Jaguars last year. They are not nearly as advanced as their AFC South rivals and will lose their first game of the 2022 season.
Week 6: @Indianapolis Colts, loss
By week 6, Matt Ryan should be in sync with all of his wide receivers. In addition, the game will be played at the Lucas Oil Stadium, where Shaquille Leonard may return. While the Jaguars are better than last year and their coaching staff has improved. They will face some speed bumps in 2022 as they learn to win. Their second game against the Colts will be one of them.
Jonathan Taylor will make his way into the end zone several times and make the Jaguars fit defensively.
Week 7: vs. New York Giants, win
In Week 7, offensive lineman Evan Neal and defender Kayvon Thibodeaux will try to prove that the Jaguars made a mistake in selecting Travon Walker as the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft. By then, Thibodeaux should be ready to leave after spraining his MCL earlier this year.
Likewise, Jacksonville high school accepts Kadarius Toney, who broke Urban Meyer’s heart last year. Still, the Jaguars’ defence should be able to hold down quarterback Daniel Jones, which will give them an edge.
Week 8: vs. Denver Broncos, loss
The Jaguars have won their first game of the 2021 season at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. This year, however, they won’t be so lucky and will face Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos. NFL London Broncos vs Jaguars fans to buy Broncos Vs Jaguars Tickets from our website.
With Patrick Mahomes and Derek Carr playing in the same division, it’s easy to forget how great Russ is, but he will remember the Jaguars and everyone else during the NFL International Series.
Week 9: vs. Las Vegas Raiders, loss
While former Las Vegas Raiders general manager Mike Mayock oversaw a string of bad draft picks, his predecessor Dave Ziegler and head coach Josh McDaniels inherited a pretty rich roster.
The Raiders have a deadly wide receiver duo in Davante Adams and Hunter Renfrow. With Adams and Renfrow drawing the most attention, Derek Carr should often find Darren Waller. Which will lead to a win at TIAA Bank Field and the Jaguars’ first losing streak of the year.
Week 10: @Kansas City Chiefs, loss
The Jaguars won’t be able to stop their loss in Week 10 when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs. Even without Tyreek Hill, now with the Miami Dolphins, Patrick Mahomes should have success against the Jaguar’s second baseman.
To make matters worse, the game is played in Arrowhead Stadium. One of the most hostile venues in the entire competition for opponents.
Week 11: Goodbye
The Jaguars take a break before taking on the Baltimore Ravens.
Week 12: vs. Baltimore Ravens, loss
The Jaguars and Baltimore Ravens are both bottom of their respective divisions in 2021. However, the AFC North is one of the toughest divisions in the league, and they should bounce back after encircling Lamar Jackson with a better supporting lineup. They also improved their defences, which will make it difficult for Trevor Lawrence and the rest of the Jaguar’s attack.
The last time the Jaguars faced Baltimore was in 2020. They lost then and will face it again in 2022.
Week 13: @Detroit Lions, win
Like the Jaguars, the Detroit Lions have had several opportunities over the past two years. Dan Campbell is the kind of head coach who knows how to push the right button and puts players in the game every week. Even if they get beat, which was often the case last year.
Wide receiver DJ Chark Jr., who signed a one-year deal with Detroit this offseason, will try to prove to his former team that they made a mistake when they let him go. However, he will fall short and the Jaguars will win this game to end a streak of four game losses.
Week 14: @Tennessee Titans, loss
Unfortunately, the Jaguars return to the losing streak in Week 14. When they face the reigning AFC South champion Tennessee Titans. While this divisional opponent will be weakened by Harold Landry’s torn ACL. The Titans still have several talented players on either side of the ball.
The Jaguars will try to be at their best and keep the game close. Ultimately, however, they will fall short.
