Romania will be replaced in the final qualifier by Portugal. Who are just two points behind in the 2021 and 2022 tournaments?

The Oaks have won six out of ten Euro Rugby matches in 2021 and 2022, the most important being a 37-27 win over Portugal and a 38-12 win over the Netherlands at the final weekend.

Romania had to beat Portugal in Bucharest in February and trailed 22-13 at halftime. Attempts by Ovidiu Cojocaru, Alexandru Savin and Andre Gorin in the second half, however, resulted in a strong counterattack.

Going into the final round, Robinson’s side knew they had to beat the Netherlands to overtake Portugal in the standings, where they lead four times.

The Netherlands made two attempts to close the gap, but Romania finished strong again and sealed the victory with 26 points.

Robinson and his players didn’t know it then, but the victory in Amsterdam finally secured a place in France the next year. Their focus will now turn to compete against the best at RWC 2023.
