Main takeaways of South Africa's team for the T20 World Cup 2022

South Africa recently announced their 15-man roster for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, with a notable absence. Temba Bavuma, who led the team to the T20 World Cup for the second time in a row, has made a full recovery from an elbow injury sustained during the Tour of India in June. ICC T20 World Cup 2022 fans can buy India Vs South Africa Tickets from our website.

The squad’s most notable omission was Rassie van der Dussen, who missed his flight to Australia due to a finger injury that required surgery. While the Proteas will struggle to replace their mainstay, they hope to have enough firepower to make up for his absence.

SOUTH AFRICA’S SQUAD FOR THE T20 WORLD CUP 2022

Squad: Temba Bavuma (captain), Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markram, Dwaine Pretorius, Anrich Nortje, Wayne Parnell, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Rillee Rossouw, Tristan Stubbs.

Reserves:  Marco Jansen, Bjorn Fortuin and Andile Phehlukwayo.

Travelled for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 last year with only three changes being made, the Proteas haven’t tinkered too much with the squad.

Proteas haven’t made too many changes to the team that played in the T20 World Cup last year, with just three changes.

Here we take a look at some of the biggest takeaways from team announcements.

Rassie’s injury dents the middle order

The 33-year-old suffered a finger injury during Manchester’s second Test against England and continued to fight even after the injury. He had to fly home after the game and is now expected to undergo surgery that will keep him sidelined for at least six weeks.

As the Proteas’ second-highest T20I runner of the decade, Rassie quickly became a staple of South Africa’s batting order and was an integral part of their previous World Cup runs in the UAE and Oman. In his absence, the responsibility to take centre stage rests with Aiden Markram and David Miller, who has recently been on good terms.

One of the three new faces of the team is Tristan Stubbs, who has impressed in his short international career. With the experience around him, Stubbs could be the X factor to make up for Rassie’s absence in the middle order.

T20 globetrotter finds a place

Just two months ago, it has been over six years since Rilee Rossouw showed South African colours in the T20Is. Fast forward two months and the T20 globetrotter has joined the squad for the World Cup in Australia after the recent series against England.

One look at Rossouw’s T20 stats will give you a good idea of a player’s seniority in the shortest possible time – in a whopping 261 matches, the 32-year-old has 6,633 points with an average of 30.99 and a score of 142,40. He has played in almost every league around the world and brings valuable experience to South Africa’s batting teams that can take them to the next level.

On his international return, he scored 55 goals for 96 against England, showing that he still has the ability to take the world stage by storm. The T20 World Cup in Australia will be the perfect platform for Rossouw to become a game-changer for South Africa. T20 World Cup 2022 fans can buy ICC T20 World Cup Tickets from our website.

Pretoria, Parnell boost all-round duo in reserves

One of the most interesting aspects of the South African roster is the inclusion of Dwaine Pretorius and Wayne Parnell. Parnell, like Rossouw, only recently returned to South Africa after a nearly five-year hiatus in the series against India in June, and thanks to the experience he brings, he defeated Marco Jansen in the squad.

Pretorius, on the other hand, has recently emerged as a player and has become one of the hottest T20 stars in the global franchise league.

In a virtual press conference, CSA’s selector organizer Victor Mpitsang spoke about the duo’s ability to bowl dead, which could give them an edge over Andile Phehlukwayo and Marco Jansen, who are both at the top of the World Cup squad reserve team.

“Wayne gave us another chance in the frontcourt and how he was on the new ball and when he died,” explained Mpitsang.

“The way Pretorius bowls in the middle is excellent. Guys like Andile (Phehlukwayo) run well. It’s a good back-up.”

Pretorius and Parnell made three changes to the South African squad during the last World Cup. South Africa has a team that ticks all the boxes and they hope the new additions will give them their first T20 World Cup glory.

Mark Boucher steps down as head coach of South Africa after ICC T20 World Cup 2022

Mark Boucher has decided to step down as South Africa’s head coach after the Men’s ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.

Boucher has held the role since December 2019 and has coached the team in two World Testing Championships and last year’s T20 World Cup. After a disappointing WTC21 campaign, South Africa recovered to the current edition and is currently second in the current standings.

In a limited run, he secured 12 ODIs and 23 T20I victories. South Africa nearly reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup but missed a spot in the net run rate.

Boucher’s latest two-sided assignment is a three-game T20I and ODI series against India before Proteas flies to Australia for the T20 World Cup. T20 World Cup fans can buy T20 World Cup Tickets from our website.

South Africa will play against Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and the two teams that advance in the first round. Their game starts on October 24 against the Group B table teams in the first round.

Pholetsi Moseki, CEO of CSA

Commenting on Boucher’s resignation, Pholetsi Moseki, CEO of CSA, said: “We would like to thank Mark for the time and effort he has put into South African cricket over the past three years as head coach.”

“After so many senior players retired, he helped us through the storm and laid a solid foundation for the next generation of Proteas.

“We are very grateful for the work he has done and wishes him all the best in the next chapter of his career.”

The Cricket South Africa statement said Boucher had resigned “to pursue other opportunities consistent with his future professional and personal goals.” The CSA will decide on Boucher’s successor in due course.
