As the defending champion and currently number one in world rugby, South Africa has chosen three potential bases in the south of France.

After a thorough consideration of the options by Nienaber and team leader Charles Wessels, it was decided to choose the city on the Mediterranean coast as the favored base for the international event.

The Springboks are in Group B, where they face Scotland at the Autodrome in Marseille (September 10), then Spain at the Stade Bordeaux (September 17) and Stade de France in Saint-Denis (September 23). /Pacific qualifiers in Marseille (October 1), finishing first in the group stage.

South Africa will spend 28 days in Toulon, establishing a base at the Grand Hotel Des Sablettes-Page, just 24 minutes from Toulon Rugby Club's RCT campus.

“Toulon Rugby Club's RCT campus has some of the best training and team facilities in the area we visit. The facilities are excellent, with a high-performance gym, indoor synthetic pitch, outfield pitch, fixed cameras to assist with our technical analysis, restoration facilities, and a fully armed kitchen and dining area,” Nienaber said.

“So in a way, we need to make sure our preparation sessions are as well-organized as possible, it's a one-stop-shop for everything.

“With 18 months to go until the start of the Rugby World Cup, this announcement certainly adds to the enthusiasm for the tour ahead.”

Undecided by the Boks' improvement, they will move their bases to Paris for the upcoming matches as the two quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final will be played at the nearby Stade de France.

"We had a week of training in Paris for last season's end-of-year tour, so we knew exactly what to expect in the country's capital the week before the Irish Pool Match and the final stage of the match depended on our success at the Rugby World Cup progress," Nienaber said.

"For the moment, though, our focus remains on the coming season and every game we play is crucial in our training for the Rugby World Cup.

"We intend to take every chance on the field as we are currently preparing for the start of the season, we look ahead to next year's game."

The Springboks start their 2022 season with three Tests against Wales in Pretoria (July 2), Bloemfontein (July 9), and Cape Town (July 16).

South Africa will then host the Rugby Championship home tests in Nelspruit and Johannesburg (Saturday 6-13 August) and Argentina in Durban (Saturday 24 September).

The Boks will play two rugby tournaments outside of Australia (August 27 and September 3, respectively) and Argentina in Buenos Aires on Saturday, September 17.
