RWC 2023: Australian rugby boss says Wallabies' next head coach isn't a deal done

Australia for the Rugby World Cup 2023 in France, where the counsellor could
extend his reign until the World Cup at home in 2027. However, that didn't stop
the queues from getting crowded.

The Queensland rugby team was angered this week by an unnamed RA source who said in a Nine Network report that the Queensland Reds coach Brad Thorn was not a 'team member' and would not be considered for this role on its own.
Thorn, who led the Reds'
revitalization to the 2021 Super Rugby AU title, is irritated at having to deal
with an impersonal critic.
"When someone speaks
somewhat like that It's continuously stimulating, but if there's no name. That
said the former double-yard international on Thursday.
"I'm big on the team
here. Obviously out of my career, in the league and in the league I'm not the
type of guy who can score or flash a lot of tries, I'm the type of batting
miss, do the guy who hits the ball and does more teamwork.
"It's maddening that I
have to outlook here. If you feel powerfully about somewhat, conversation,
connect. It's normal."
Thorn said the Wallabies
staff had been received by the Reds during preparation Rugby World Cup, with
Rennie and his colleagues at Queensland headquarters this week.
Observations about Thorn
have led to lingering conjecture that McKellar, who has been Rennie's assistant
for two years and will go full-time after this Super Rugby Pacific season, is
the clear heir to the job.

Marinos has been deprived of the claims, saying there has been no discussion of the character's future other than Rennie.
"No, it is definitely
not a foregone conclusion," he tells AAP.
"You have to have a
successor, but Dan is a little bit different from a striker's point of view and
adds value to that.”
The CEO says the Wallabies'
choice was entirely up to Rennie, stressing there was no problem with
McKellar's dual role of club and country.
"In the end, only Dave
is responsible for the final result."
Former Wallabies captain
Phil Kearns, a Thorn fan, thinks competing for the wanted coach job is good for
Australian rugby.
"I'm not sure Dave is
ready to drop this but Brad has done a fantastic job rebuilding the Reds,"
said the former NSW hooker.
"I like his
straightforward attitude; it's hard and disciplined, but a lot of sport is
about discipline and getting those details right.”
