The next two Presidents Cup captains are Stricker and Tiger Woods, with Love taking over at Quail Hollow in 2022. Love pointed to Johnson as a prime example of the new system. In fact, he said it was "embarrassing" to choose who presided over which game and Johnson was initially seeded in Charlotte to captain this year's Presidents Cup. That changed when a spot "opened up" in Italy - likely Woods' crash disqualified him as successor.

Johnson was the obvious choice for the Ryder Cup, while Love moved to the Charlotte Presidents Cup. (During discussing the move, Love pointed out that Woods had actually given him the job.
