Ryder Cup Tickets: How the professional player is looking for avenged the European Ryder Cup impressively

Two months have passed since the US team’s dominant win in the 2021 European Ryder Cup in the Whistler Strait and the European team’s devastating defeat. But for a member of the European team, the pain of that defeat is still fresh in his mind. 27-year-old Matt Fitzpatrick played three games in the Whistling Strait but lost all. This is the second time he participates in the European Ryder Cup team, the first time being in 2016 when the US team also won. A European 0-2 lead in the Ryder Cup (a 0-5 lead in the game) is rare in the modern era of European domination.

Not surprisingly, Fitzpatrick was thinking of revenge at the DP World Tour Championship this week. Since this tournament brought an end to the European Tour season and the one-season match in Dubai, Fitzpatrick actually has a chance to get revenge.

Like the FedEx Cup on the PGA Tour, players in Dubai contest throughout the season to earn points in each event. The number one player at the end of the season will win the Dubai Championship and a check for $1 million.

What caught Fitzpatrick’s attention was the man who currently tops the list of the “Dubai Competition” who reached the final: American Collin Morikawa. Of course, Morikawa is one of the stars of the US Ryder Cup team this year, leading 3-0-1 on his team debut.

Former American Ryder Cooper Billy Horschel (currently ranked No. 2), If Morikawa wins the match in Dubai. He will become the first American to win the title of the season. For Fitzpatrick, this would be too much American success.

“It would be good to stop the Americans from winning, and it would be good to stop history, wouldn’t it?” Fitzpatrick told the Daily Telegraph in a recent interview. “Go ahead – if you like, this one is for Europe!”

Fitzpatrick is currently 6th in the standings. If he wins the DP World Tour Championship and Morikawa completes the previous nine. Then the British professional could win the Dubai Championship and get some of the revenge he seeks.

Fitzpatrick also told the “Daily Telegraph”, “I really like my chance”, and history also backs up his confidence. He is the defending champion this week, winning the 2020 DP World Tour Championship and finishing second in last year’s event in Dubai. Not only that, this is his second win in the event, and he also won the championship in 2016.

“I have fond memories here,” Fitzpatrick told the Daily Telegraph, “When you go back to a familiar place, it feels good, like your pocket. Maybe I can play blindfolded.”

Adding even more inspiration to Fitzpatrick’s pursuit is that Morikawa is not a full-time member of the European Tour. In fact, he only competed in two regular seasons in 2021. The Omega Dubai Desert Classic in January, where he won T68 and the Scottish Open (T71).

His top spot in the Race to Dubai rankings is due to his performances in WGC and major. Which are recognized jointly by the PGA and the European Tour. These include the world’s second two wins, namely the WGC weekday tournament in February and the Royal St. George’s Open in July.

With the absence of Jon Rahm (third in Dubai) this week. Only two other players in Europe have a chance of beating Morikawa and Horschel to win the championship. Tyrrell Hatton and Paul Casey, Hatton coming in this week.
