“A lot of people thought that the project could not be carried out. Despite this, the team never gave up.”
Mercedes-AMG technical director Jochen Hermann added that the project was “in a sense a curse and a blessing at the same time. But we’ve come a long way”.
F1 engines in road cars
The 1.6-litre V6 hybrid engine revs up to 11,000 rpm, although this is intentionally under the F1 rev limit. Both for durability and to ensure it can run on regular super pump fuel.
It has a high-tech turbo with a shared gas turbine and a compressor connected by a shaft on which a 122 hp electric motor is mounted.
