All vehicle debuts for Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022
The Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 runs from Thursday, June 23 through Sunday, June 26, and many vehicle debuts are expected. This year’s theme of The Hill Climb is “Innovators – Motorsport Masterminds”, where event organizers pledge to focus on historic and future achievements in the automotive industry. With the COVID-19 pandemic further hampering traditional auto shows in recent years, manufacturers are capitalizing on the success of the Goodwood Festival of Speed by launching new metals.
Here’s our guide to the biggest showcase of this year’s four-day festival.
Bentley Flying Spur S
Bentley has a new addition announced to its S line.
At the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022, Bentley Flying Spur S is officially unveiled.
First introduced in 2019 as the third generation. The Flying Spur is available with a 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 or a 2.9-litre plug-in hybrid V6.
There is no S-badged variant of the 6.0-litre W12 engine. But the petrol V8 and the hybrid V6 sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.0 and 4.2 seconds respectively.
Design highlights include a dark exterior, tinted headlights and tail lights, black quad exhaust pipes, an S logo and a black grille.
BMW M3 Touring
Camouflage finally arrives off the highly anticipated 2023 BMW M3 Touring at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The M3 Touring has made its first uphill run and has been confirmed for the Australian market. But the local time has yet to be announced.
It is expected to be offered in the flagship Competition form with four-wheel drive, with a 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six producing 375 kW of power and 650 Nm of torque.
Late last week, BMW confirmed that the M3 Touring had set a lap record at the Nurburgring with a time of 7:35,060. It also makes it faster than the current twin-turbocharged V8-powered F90 M5 Competition.
In addition, the first high-performance 3-series car will feature the brand’s latest curved display alongside the 2023 M3. Genesis X Speedium Coupe
South Korean luxury brand Genesis has confirmed that the X Speedium Coupe concept will debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The event marks the first public appearance since its unveiling in April.
It follows an earlier reveal of the X Concept, with the Speedium Coupé including a new grille front end. As well as a longer wheelbase and a boxier roofline. Possibly hinting at plans for a large four-door coupe alongside the next-generation G90 Luxury car.
The Genesis X Speedium Coupé is shown alongside the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70. Which was recently raced in prototype form in Australia.
Kia EV6 GT
The mighty 2023 Kia EV6 GT electric car will be unveiled at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Led by British rally driver Jade Paveley, the all-electric crossover will climb the famed hill several times over the weekend.
Kia claims that the EV6 GT can reach 100 km/h from standstill in 3.5 seconds, with an output of 430 kW, 740 Nm of torque and a top speed of 260 km/h.
It costs £59,995 (AU$105,000) in the UK and could go for just under $100,000 in Australia.
Kia is expected to launch the 2023 EV6 GT in Australia in the first quarter of next year.
Land Rover
At the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022, the expanded Range Rover Defender 130 will be unveiled alongside the all-new Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.
With eight seats and a massive 5.4m body, the 2023 Land Rover Defender 130 is the largest Defender ever built. Competing within the family as well as the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS.
The all-new 2023 Range Rover and its smaller 2023 Range Rover Sport sibling will compete for attention at the festival. Where Land Rover will also showcase two of its next-generation luxury 4x4s at the event.
Maserati Grecale
Italian luxury brand Maserati will debut the Grecale and MC20 Cielo at the Goodwood Festival of speed.
The 2023 Maserati Grecale crossover, which debuted in Italy at the end of March, will give the British public the first glimpse of its famous hill climb next week.
The Grecale Trofeo joins the First Glance class and is powered by a 390 kW 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 that reaches 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 285 km/h.
Meanwhile, the 2023 MC20 Cielo Convertible will complete the iconic 1.16-mile (1.87-kilometre) circuit in the supercar category ahead of its Australian debut next year. Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 fans can buy Goodwood Speed Tickets from our website.
Nissan Juke Rally Tribute
Nissan updated its urban 2022 Juke Hybrid with an authentic Rally Tribute version.
First unveiled as a digital concept in mid-2021. The Nissan Juke Hybrid Rally Tribute will be part of the rally circuit at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The Juke Hybrid Rally Tribute returns to the UK from the Sahara and is presented by veteran rally driver and car editor Rob Gill of the Sun.
Replicas of the 1971 East Africa Safari Rally-winning Nissan 240Z and production Juke Hybrid will be part of the electrified rally concept.
Nissan Australia has confirmed that there are currently no plans to launch the Juke Hybrid locally.
Polestar 5
Swedish electric car manufacturer Polestar is going full steam ahead in 2022.
The Polestar 5 2024 electric sedan will be unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 23. Just a few weeks after the Polestar 3 crossover preview.
A coupe version of the SUV, dubbed Polestar 4, was also teased last week.
Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said the Festival of Speed was the natural venue for the car’s debut.
“Goodwood is our favourite place to show our cars in a hectic environment,” said Ingenlath.
“Our UK R&D team have done a fantastic job developing this car and we are proud to highlight their hard work at an early stage.”
The flagship prototype sedan will join the performance Polestar 2 BST Edition 270 – which will not be available in Australia.
Rolls Royce Black Badge
Rolls-Royce will present its Black Badge model range this year.
The series was first launched in 2016 and now includes four members: Ghost, Cullinan, Dawn and Wraith.
All four vehicles are on display in Laundry Green, which is adjacent to Goodwood House.
According to the company, the Sport range accounts for 27 per cent of Rolls-Royce’s global sales and the Ghost will be the latest model to receive the Black Badge treatment in 2021.
Two examples of the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost will be on display, featuring blue and black units paired with red brake callipers, and a lime green prototype with black carbon fibre “Soul of Ecstasy” in the VIP area.
Notably, the flagship Phantom is unlikely to join the sportier Black Badge line, which focuses on ultra-luxury experiences.
Porsche’s new Le Mans car has its world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022
Porsche’s new LMDh Le Mans race car will compete in the World Endurance Championship and IMSA SportsCar Championship in 2023, and will make its world debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 presented by Mastercard alongside the winning GTE race car at the Le Mans 24 hours. Competing for glory in the hands of the new Porsche Penske Motorsport team. The new hybrid race car will be unveiled alongside the incredible all-electric 718 Cayman GT4 performance and the Le Mans Festival-winning 911 RSR.
Porsche Penske Motorsport will also be attending the festival for the first time. A perfect follow-up to last year’s incredible celebration of Roger Penske’s incredible motorsport history.
Qualifying for the World Endurance Championship and the IMSA SportsCar Championship. The new LMDh race car will race on both sides of the pond alongside cars from manufacturers such as BMW, Toyota, Lamborghini, Cadillac, Acura, Ferrari and Peugeot. It will be the second LMDh car to debut at this year’s Festival of Speed, with BMW’s all-new BMW M Hybrid V8 debuting the latest Central Feature sculpture.
In addition to the LMDh race car, Porsche’s other new racing project – the 718 GT4 performance – will make its debut. As Porsche’s first all-electric race car. The 612 hp (450 kW) machine is also capable of producing up to 1,000 hp (735 kW) in its most aggressive mode.
911 Sport Classic
The 911 Sport Classic is the latest in a series of special “Sport Classic” versions of the 911. Inspired by the original 911 and 911 Carrera RS 2.7. It features the iconic ducktail spoiler and a seven-speed manual transmission.
Porsche will also be bringing a selection of historic cars from its old catalogue to celebrate our “Innovators – Masterminds of Motorsport” theme. This incredible group of cars includes a 1962 Porsche 804 (owned by Dan Gurney. The only Porsche F1 car to win a race) and a 1982 Porsche 956, celebrating the group’s 40th anniversary. 2007 Porsche RS Spyder, run by Penske. Who won the American Le Mans Series and Le Mans Championship, and the 911 GT3 R Hybrid. A one-off hybrid 911 GT3 with a clever flywheel racing design.
On top of that is the Porsche 911 RSR. The car that won the last Le Mans GTE Pro race at the 24 Hours of Le Mans last weekend.
In addition to these great race cars, Porsche will also show off its latest beautiful road cars. These machines were featured in the First Glance presented by Heycar and Michelin Supercar Paddock, including the new 718 Cayman GT4 RS (you can see the review here), 911 GT3, and 911 GT2 RS with Manthey Racing’s new performance package and the Taycan GTS Sports Turismo.
