This is Roger’s fourth game in the past 16 months as he has a knee injury and is not one of the Wimbledon favourites for the first time in two decades. Bookmakers put Federer among the hot favourite, and he didn’t care, he focused on his game and what was to come after Halle’s early exit.
Roger named defending champion Novak Djokovic as a player to beat, followed by Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev. Djokovic, Federer, Zverev and Medvedev all advanced to the third round with Roger following much younger after beating Adrian Mannarino and Richard Gasquet.
Roger Federer has chosen Novak Djokovic as last year’s Wimbledon champion
The Swiss passed two more hurdles to reach the quarter-finals. Becomes the oldest player in the Open Era in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon.
Federer was unable to advance after losing in straight sets to Hubert Hurkacz. Roger predicted the winner of the match when Djokovic defeated Matteo Berrettini in four sets to win a sixth Wimbledon trophy and get closer to the Swiss.
Federer and Djokovic play the epic final at Wimbledon 2019. Serb 7-6, 1-6, 7-6, 4-6, 13 after dramatic 4 hours 57 minutes -12 beating two match points! “I don’t know how to explain it to you.
“I don’t care about the bookmaker’s odds; it does not matter. Still, they could be right that Djokovic makes it all the way through to the finals on the other side. The favourite for that draw and the entire tournament.”
“I think Zverev should be higher on the bookmakers’ list, maybe because I’ve played him on grass before. I know he can play well on this surface, especially if he can serve. Medvedev is number one in the world. 2. Normally he should be on it too.”
And then me, my grades are here, they will always put me somewhere. But maybe they’re right about Djokovic and his status as the most popular,” said Roger Federer.

Some players have publicly expressed their dismay at the ATP’s decision. Some have even described current Wimbledon as an exhibition. Fears are growing that top players may decide to skip Wimbledon, but Rublev wants Djokovic and Nadal to play.
“I don’t know [if the top players will skip Wimbledon] because I haven’t talked to any player about it. I think they will definitely play because the top players. Especially Nadal and Djoko Vicki, aren’t playing for points or money now,” he said. Rublev according to Sportskeeda.
“They try to be the first in history to win [the most] majors.”
Rublev on the magnitude of the Big Three
Rublev thinks Nadal, Djokovic and Roger Federer are the ones who deserve the most credit because tennis has reached what it is today.
The game’s popularity has grown over the past two decades, and Rublev says the Big Three are responsible. “In this way tennis grows, grows, grows a lot, because all the success in tennis right now is only because of these three players. Because of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal] and Novak Djokovic.
They’re doing all the hype and tennis is now in its prime,” Rublev said. “Like live streaming, people are starting to pay more and more attention to tennis prize money just because of these three players.
It should also be the other way around. Tennis should also promote these players. I think it’s mostly teamwork. Last month, Rublev called out the Wimbledon decision, accusing them of “total discrimination” against Russians.
John McEnroe denounces Wimbledon for banning Russian and Belarus players, saying ‘it’s a lose-lose situation for both players and AELTC
Wimbledon 2022 John McEnroe criticizes Wimbledon for banning Russian and Belarus players. The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), which hosts the grass slams, has decided to ban players from both countries from this year’s tournament due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in what Moscow called a “special operation.”
Belarus has been an important stopping place for invasions. The men’s ATP and the women’s WTA described the AELTC’s decision as “discriminatory” and cancelled the rankings for next month’s tournament in response.
The AELTC said last month that banning Russian and Belarusian players from this year’s tournament was the only viable option, under UK government guidelines.
McEnroe, who won three of his seven Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon, said there was no winner in wrestling.
“I know it’s a very scary, difficult and horrible situation it was a mistake banning Russian and Belarusian players, obviously in Ukraine,” the 63-year-old told Reuters.
“I think there was something with the government and no one else has made that decision? When I don’t know exactly. So, I wish that wasn’t what they did. And I wish the ATP and the WTA didn’t decide it, say right now any points.”
“It’s like a lose-lose right now. Tennis players, we are like a fraternity. We travel the world. There’s a connection and in a small way and even if we speak different languages, it’s like a family. And we need to support each other.
“It’s difficult to see some of our best players not playing because of something they have nothing to do with. So I hope it is resolved. I don’t know. But it’s a bad situation.”
Exhibition Competition
The Wimbledon ban will exclude the Russian men’s world No. 2 and US Open champion Daniil Medvedev and No. 7 Andrei Rublev from June 27 to July 10. Wimbledon 2022 fans can buy Wimbledon Tickets from our website.
Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka is seventh, and former world No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion Victoria Azarenka will also be absent.
Ranking points determine a player’s ability to participate in tennis events and be seeded, so removing them from Wimbledon effectively reduces the event to a show tournament.
The players will also not be able to defend the points they won at Wimbledon last year which will lead to a drop in the rankings.
Japan’s four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka said last week she was “not 100 per cent sure” she would play at Wimbledon without ranking points.
“I see all the players going to Wimbledon, but it’s up to the individual,” added Eurosport tennis expert McEnroe.
“I don’t agree with the fact that there were no points. But I don’t think it will stop people and players from going to Wimbledon.”
“We’ll know in a few weeks. But I think all the top players who think they can perform well there will still play.”
