The first is certainly a first of its kind, and for us station wagon enthusiasts at Goodwood, we couldn’t be more excited. The proven M3 substructure, including the exaggerated 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six. Finds its way into a car body full of M3 types. We can’t wait to see it in person. We can also reveal that in addition to the production version. A new MotoGP safety car, the M3 Touring, is driving on the hills.
These will also join the hardcore lightweight new M4 CSL, which will make its European debut at FOS. The new M Hybrid V8 LMDh car will compete with the 3.0 CSL, M1 Procar, WTCC 3-Series and the Le Mans-winning V12 LMR.
On the hills, M’s racing history comes alive too, with another screaming V12 LMR joining the 1983 F1 World Championship winner Brabham-BMW BT52, 2015 Spa BMW Z4 GTR and Sharknose 635CSI.
Down the hill will be on display many incredible models from BMW’s past, present and future, from the E30 M3 and E46 M3 CSL to the latest and greatest M5 CS and M4 GT3 racers to the i4 M50 EV and even Concept XM, BMW M’s monster hybrid awaits. BMW’s all-electric assault is also well underway, with the iX1 making its UK debut at FOS and joining the stately new i7 electric limousine.
BMW M3 Touring Debuts At Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 23
Although the existence of several generations of the M5 wagon, not to mention direct competitors such as the Audi RS4 and Mercedes C63 wagon, BMW has never produced a stretched version of the M3 performance sedan. However, that has all changed with the new generation, and today BMW announced that the M3 Touring will debut on June 23 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
BMW first teased the M3 car in August 2020 and gave us some new info or camo photos every few months.
Today’s news comes with a shaded image of the car with no camouflage, though increasing the brightness of the image doesn’t reveal much. Nevertheless. We could see the M3 Touring with a large spoiler above the hatch. As well as the same wide fenders, large rear diffuser and other styling cues as the M3 sedan. In addition to the debut of the regular M3 Touring. BMW also comes with a wagon version from the M Performance parts catalogue. Other new models on display at Goodwood include the hardcore M4 CSL. The electric iX M60 and the recently launched iX1. 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the M brand. So the brand is also launching a range of classic models such as the M1 Procar, V12 LMR and 3.0 CSL.
Unfortunately, the M3 Touring won’t be sold in the US – which isn’t surprising. Given that the US doesn’t have a regular 3-Series touring or any of the M3’s wagon competitors. The Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place June 23-26.

1000PS Mercedes AMG One has world premiere at Festival of Speed
After years in the making, the new Mercedes-AMG One supercar will make its debut at Mastercard’s 2022 Festival of Speed.
That’s right, one of the most anticipated cars of the past decade will take to the hills of Goodwood in June. Five years later Lewis Hamilton at the 2017 Frankfurt International Motor Show for its first Appearance. Why Lewis Hamilton? Because the One is powered by a turbocharged Mercedes F1-derived 1.6-litre V6 hybrid.
The performance is comparable. There are four electric motors (one in the turbo, one directly connected to the engine and one on each front wheel) for a combined 1,063 hp (782 kW), enough for 0-100 km/h and 218 km/h in 2.9 seconds.
The Mercedes-AMG One will run up the hills every day during the holiday season.
What is the engine of the Mercedes-AMG One?
We’ve covered the basics above, but it’s worth diving into the details as there’s a lot more to do. As we said, the powertrain is similar to a Mercedes-AMG F1 race car, a 1.6-litre single-turbo V6 hybrid. Where you would normally find mechanical valve springs in automotive engines. You will find pneumatic valve springs, and there are direct injection and port injection for fuel efficiency and performance. How does the hybrid system of the Mercedes-AMG One work?
The engine spins at 11,000 rpm and the electric motor. That spins the turbine produces 90 kW of power and spins up to 100,000 rpm. Before the exhaust gas takes over.
At the same time, the energy from the excess exhaust gases spins the electric motor to generate electricity. Which is then sent to the electric motor on the front wheels. The 8.4 kWh lithium-ion battery or the electric motor on the engine. Six in total, including four preheated metal catalysts and two ceramic catalysts. Oh, and two particulate filters. Simple, right?
The motors on the engine mounted to the crankshaft produce 120 kW of power. While each engine on the front axle produces 120 kW of power up to 50, 000 rpm and is connected to the shaft via a reduction gear (as you can imagine the wheels spin at 50,000 rpm? rpm?) And Mercedes says they have 80 per cent energy recovery in everyday driving.
Can it work in pure electric mode?
The 8.4 kWh battery is the same as in the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E-Performance, is charged via a 3.7 kW onboard charger and uses an 800 V architecture to provide up to 18.1 miles of pure electric power to drive. To keep everything at an optimal temperature, in most cases around 45 degrees Celsius, coolant is routed from top to bottom around the individual cells.
