Fortunately, Qatar will host the FIFA World Cup in November and December during the less warm months of the year. At the time of writing it is 40°C in Qatar (no wonder James wants to leave).

Luis Enrique wants Gerard Pique to join in Spain team for FIFA World Cup 2022

Spanish national coach Luis Enrique is considering calling up Barcelona defender Gerard Pique for the Qatar World Cup 2022 squad later this year, Gerard Romero claims.

Luis Enrique is considering calling up Barcelona defender Gerard Pique for the Qatar World Cup 2022 squad

Pique announced his retirement from the Spanish national football team four years ago. After La Roja’s poor performance at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. He then played a game for the Catalonian national team in 2019 but has since been inactive in international football.

However, according to Gerard Romero, Enrique, who coached Pique at Barcelona, is now keen to persuade the 35-year-old to quit the national team and take him to Qatar for the World Cup later this year.

Despite his advanced age, Pique was impressive for Barca in 2021/22. Although injuries cut his playing time at the end of the season. In addition, the veteran centre-back had some problems off the pitch, leading Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez to use less of his abilities from next season.

Despite his situation at Camp Nou, Enrique still seems to have faith in the ageing centre-back. As he expects the Barcelona icon to be on the run to Qatar later this year.

Whether such a move becomes a reality will depend on a number of factors, including Pique’s fitness level, as Pique struggles with chronic adductors.

It remains to be seen whether the 35-year-old star is willing to retire and wear the colours of La Roja again. Reports in March suggested Pique would consider a return to the World Cup if Enrique wanted him back.

The inclusion of Pique in the World Cup squad could be a great move. As Eric Garcia and Pau Torres were not entirely convincing for Spain.

However, as mentioned before, there are a few things the 2010 FIFA World Cup winner must do to return to La Roja.
