FIFA World Cup 2022 team USA World Cup Odds and Predictions
Those evaluating America’s chances in Qatar will recall that it failed to qualify for the recent World Cup in Russia.
However, the team’s results in the previous match made me a bit optimistic about their prospects in Qatar. In South Africa in 2010 and Brazil in 2014, the US each made it to the knockout rounds, before losing to Ghana and Belgium respectively.
Plus, the last time Team USA was at the World Cup, it was able to control a team that I thought was more complicated than that. That group is, of course, the United States, Germany, Portugal and Ghana. Although this year’s roster is almost completely different from 2014, there is still plenty of talent.
Undoubtedly, the strength of this team lies in attack and midfield, made up of Christian Pulisic (Chelsea), Tayler Adams (Leeds United) and Weston McKennie (Juventus). Additionally, Team USA is 3-2-1 (W-L-D) in six games against other CONCACAF qualifiers and could see positive returns based on those schedules.
Despite the fact that the US finished with a -1 difference in those six games, according to fotmob.com, the US maintains a +3 lead on high odds. Perhaps most impressively, the US went 1-0-1 (WL-D) in two games against Mexico, winning 5-2 in total.
If Team USA brings this level of quality to the group stage, I could easily see it pass. England is still in Group B and should have no problem winning in the group stage – some may be shocked by the Nations League’s 4-0 defeat to Hungary, but it’s not a solid team. If the US can steal a point from England in their head-to-head – in particular, the US is 1-0-1 (WL-D) against Great Britain in their last two World Cup matches – and have won against Iran All three points, that puts the US in a good position going forward.
I also suspect that Wales will have some difficulties. A mid-season World Cup could affect their old stars Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey and I am not happy with the rest of their roster.
For this reason, I’m willing to bet that the US will qualify from Group B (+110). Personally, I think it’s a toss-up whether manager Gregg Berhalter’s team is making progress, so I see a small implied chance advantage.
However, it’s hard for me to see Team USA go deeper than the top 16. I’m very happy with both the Netherlands and Senegal in Group A, so it’s going to be an uphill battle to reach the quarter-finals no matter where Team USA ends up.
Despite their disappointing exit from the European Championship last year, the Netherlands remain unbeaten since June 1 (W3-D1), while Senegal is on the cusp of reaching the African Cup of Nations final. For this reason, I will avoid everything after 16 laps.
Jackson Irvine, Scott Kennedy, Julian Green and Bundesliga 2’s 2022 FIFA World Cup contenders
Canadian Scott Kennedy, Australian Jackson Irvine and American Julian Green are among the Bundesliga 2 players looking to advance to the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. Qatar FIFA World Cup fans can buy England Vs USA Tickets from our website.
Scott Kennedy
Club: Regensburg
Position: Centre-back
Country: Canada
Kennedy is predicted to make Canada’s first World Cup appearance since 1986. The Regensburg centre-back has won all eight games of his senior team so far in the CONCACAF qualifiers and is guaranteed regular minutes at the heart of Jahn’s defence in the new Bundesliga 2 season. The 6-foot-3 defender is a tough tackler who excels on both sides of the floor, as evidenced by his two set pieces last season.
Jackson Irvine
Club: St. Pauli
Position: Central midfielder
Country: Australia
Taking part in Bundesliga 2 also did wonders for Owen’s international career. The no-nonsense St. Pauli midfielder was present in Socceroos’ Asian qualifiers, missing just three of their 18 group matches before opening the scoring and 120 in the fourth-round tiebreak against the United Arab Emirates Minutes defeated Peru in the play-offs. Unnecessary to say, he is the representative of the club and the national team.
Julian Green
Club: Greuther Fürth
Position: Attacking midfielder
Country: USA
When Green returns to Team USA, his job is done. The Florida native has not represented his country since November 2018, but he received his first call-up to the team from Gregg Berhalter in May 2021. A goal in Game 1 of the 2022/23 season will not hurt his chances.
The former Bayern Munich teenager also has World Cup experience, having played in Brazil in 2014, when he scored against Belgium in the round of 16 in extra time to become the United States’ youngest goal scorer in a competition.
Masaya Okugawa
Club: Arminia Bielefeld
Position: Attacking midfielder
Country: Japan
Masaya Okugawa was Arminia Bielefeld’s top scorer last season with eight goals in the Bundesliga, in addition to his five goals last season. He has previously done business in Bundesliga 2 and the Austrian Bundesliga but has yet to earn a cap in the international senior league, with players like Takuma Asano (Bochum) and Daichi Kamada (Frankfurt) keeping him out of the game in any case for now. Ao Tanaka
Club: Fortuna Dusseldorf
Position: Midfielder
Country: Japan
The prospects for the World Cup of Ao Tanaka, among others, are more optimistic. The 23-year-old midfielder made his mark in Bundesliga 2 during last season’s loan spell at Fortuna Dusseldorf, where he made seven consecutive qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup while competing in all four international matches in Japan in June. With promotion hopeful Fortuna signing him a permanent contract, he is ideally placed to lay claim to the World Cup starting spot.
Gideon Jung
Club: Greuther Fürth
Position: Defensive midfielder
Country: Germany/ Ghana
Gideon Jung has missed most of the 2021/2022 season due to injury. However, the veteran defender has made 138 Bundesliga appearances and two Bundesliga appearances in recent years and will be a handy addition to Ghana’s World Cup squad. Assuming he is fit and in good shape, the Black Stars could be worse off than enticing the former German U21 international to move to Qatar in time.
Kwasi Wriedt
Club: Holstein Kiel
Position: Forward
Country: Ghana
Kwasi Wriedt is another option in Ghana. The Holstein Kiel striker has three spells for Bayern on his resume and has won three La Liga medals for a record-breaking title reserve. Wriedt left Willem II in the Netherlands in the summer of 2020, scoring 12 goals in 42 Eredivisie games, before returning to Germany in January with Holstein Kiel. In 15 appearances for the club, in which he scored 3 goals, it shows that he is no less capable in the attacking third.
