History

The history of the Serbian national football team goes back to the early 1920s when they played their first matches. However, the team played Yugoslavia in 1929 and made its World Cup debut in 1930.

In 2003, Yugoslavia was reorganised and renamed Serbia and Montenegro. The team participated in the 2006 World Cup but broke up after Montenegro declared independence on June 3, 2006. Since then, Serbia has become an independent country and the Eagles were born.

Has Serbia ever won the World Cup?

The Serbian national football team’s World Cup campaign was not impressive. After the country’s independence, they made their World Cup debut in 2010 but failed to qualify for the group stage. But unfortunately, the team missed the 2014 game in Brazil. The Eagles returned to the world stage in 2018.

Do they qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2022?

The Eagles have secured a place at the Qatar World Cup 2022, where they led a tough group and are undefeated. They will face Brazil, Switzerland and Cameroon in the Group G match that starts in Qatar in November 2022.

European championship

Surprisingly, Serbia never qualified as an independent country for the European Championship. They lost to Scotland at home in their play-off final, adding to the pain for a country hungry for success in football. Qatar FIFA World Cup fans can buy Brazil Vs Serbia Tickets from our website.

Serbia Football Team Trophy

The country has not won any trophies since its independence. However, the Eagles were part of the Yugoslav team that won gold at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Italy. The Eagles also won two Mediterranean Games (1971 and 1979) and the 1945 Yugoslav Football Championship.

Serbia coach Stojkovic opposes FIFA’s biennial World Cup plans

Dragan Stojkovic joined the European national teams on Saturday. After Didier Deschamps and Roberto Martinez opposed plans to host the World Cup every two years.

The Serbian coach, who represented Yugoslavia at the 1990 and 1998 World Cups, prefers FIFA’s four-year cycle. Which goes against the wishes of most European countries and tries to change.

Stojkovic said in comments to Serbian media: “The World Cup sounds attractive. But only because it is held every four years because this period is eagerly anticipated.”

“Otherwise it will lose its charm, interest and image,” said the former organizer of Red Star Belgrade and Marseille.

Stojkovic does not support the biennial World Cup proposal. Even though Serbia is a national team that could benefit from FIFA giving more countries more chances to qualify for the final.

Serbia took part in the 2018 World Cup but failed to qualify for the 2014 World Cup. Stojkovic’s side is now behind Portugal in the 2022 qualifying stage and the number two must advance in two playoff rounds in March.

He also questioned the impact of adding more games to the crowded club and country competition on players’ health.

“They’re not robots, they need a break,” Stojkovic said.

Stojkovic’s former Marseille teammate, France’s 2018 World Cup-winning coach Deschamps and top-ranked Belgium coach Martinez also spoke out against FIFA’s plans this week.

Most of the public support for FIFA has come from retired players, including World Cup winners like Brazil’s great Ronaldo. Who attended a two-day meeting last month hosted by the governing body in Qatar.
