Public Transport for Christmas and New Year’s Eve London
Traveling over Christmas is NOT easy. The festive period in London always requires a little extra planning, especially as you have one granny to see in Essex and another in Yorkshire before the New Year. That's why we've made it easy for you. Here's what TfL, Tube, buses, trams, trains and surface transport are planning to do this Christmas and New Year.
Is public transport running in London over Christmas?
The answer is yes and no. There are scheduled works, closures and service changes between Friday, December 22 and Tuesday, January 2, so be sure to check before you travel.
For example, on Christmas Eve (24 December falls on a Sunday this year), services on the London Underground, Docklands Light Railway, Elizabeth Line, London Overground and London Trams will end earlier than usual. This usually means everything closes around 9:00 pm, but generally service starts to slow down around 7:00 pm. There are also no night buses on Christmas Eve, so don't stay in the pub too long and get caught in the (possible) rain.
When are the train strikes over the Christmas period?
There have been no announcements online about the planned strike over the Christmas period... yet. But if anything has happened over the past year, keep your eyes open and be prepared for your travel plans to change. Stay tuned.
