Swimming is a long-standing castigation at the Olympic Sports of the modern era. Although the first Olympic competitions took place in an ordinary environment since the 1908 Games in London. The events have taken place in a puddle. Principal to the formation of the Federation International de Natation.

Freestyle and dog paddle was the only swimming actions at the Sports in Athens in 1896. With backstroke added in 1904. After that butterfly in 1956 at the Melbourne Games. Women’s swimming was linked to the Olympic programme in 1912. Contributing to just two events. Women now compete in equal numbers as men. And the two programmes are alike since the Tokyo Games in 2021. Olympic swimming is mainly dominated by the US with over 200 gold medals. While Australia comes in second with 56.

Archaeological and other indication shows swimming to have been practised as early as 2500 BCE in Egypt. And afterwards in Assyrian, Greek, and Roman peoples. In Greece and Rome, swimming was a part of military training. And was, with the script. Also part of basic education for males.

In the Position, swimming dates back at least to the 1st century. There is some indication of spinning races in Japan. By the 17th century, an imperial proclamation had made the education of swimming compulsory in schools. Prearranged swimming events were held in the 19th century before Japan was released to the Western world.

Children among the preliterate nautical peoples of the Pacific learned to swim around the time they learned to walk. And even before. Among the ancient Greeks, there is a note of chance races. And a well-known boxer swam as part of his exercise. The Romans constructed swimming pools differently from their baths.
